There is something evanescent, temporary and fragile about food. You make it, it goes, and what remains are memories. But these memories of food are very powerful. In the words of George Bernard Shaw, ‘There is no love more sincere than the love of food.’ It’s always a joy to discover food that takes you back. – Jacques Pépin
From the first bite, our bento boxes from Yoshi Bento took us back, all the way to 2004 when we were backpacking around Japan.
Garlic miso marinated mackerel. Japanese crispy chicken with homemade tartar sauce (so crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside). Perfectly cooked rice. Yum. Yum. Yum.
You don’t find this kind of Japanese food in most restaurants in The Hague. It’s this authenticity and desire to go beyond the standard sushi-and-miso-soup fare that makes Yoshi Bento so special.
They don’t have an eat-in restaurant but will deliver to your home or office, or you can pick up from their kitchen on the Groot Hertoginnelaan. Order from their website, and take a look at their Facebook page for lots of pictures of the mouthwatering food they cook!
Where to find it: Groot Hertoginnelaan 33, 2517 EB, Den Haag.
